Games Programming Student

Hi, I'm Tommy. I am a student at Stafforshire University studying BSc (Hons) Computer Games Programming and enjoy programming games in my spare time. Here you can find the games I have made, updates on upcoming projects and links to my social media pages. Be sure to get in touch if you have a great idea for any future projects you would like to collaborate on!

Be Yourself Game Studios

The reaction-based action game about promoting Diversity within the Games Industry and having fun while doing it! This game was created for the @UkieStudents #raisethegamejam, to support diversity within the games industry.

Slime Climb

Climb to freedom as Hopper the happy slime by using his stretchy arms to grapple to walls! I worked with a team of other aspiring game developers to produce this game in the first week of starting university, for the Staffordshire University GT Jam! We called ourselves MicroPixel Studios. After all our hard work, we won the jam so be sure to check out our game below!

Blaze

The spaceship shoot-em-up where you charge into your enemies head-first to smash them into oblivion! With Blaze, I wanted to flip the idea of a first person shooter on its head. Rather than avoiding enemies, the only way to destroy them is to fly straight into them! You still have tail missiles to protect yourself from enemy projectiles, so theres a great back and forth feel to the gameplay.

Face the Swarm

An epic arcade-style top-down shooter! Survive the endless horde of undead using a wide array of weaponry! This was one of the first games I was able to finish and features multiple waves of zombies, weapon pickups and fast-paced action-packed gameplay!

Skills and Qualities

I have a lot of different interests related to computer science, programming and games and this has allowed me to pick up many different skills and qualities through my experience. Check the table below for more information!

Programming

I have over 4 years of experience with using C# and python. I am currently learning C++, HTML and CSS. Go and follow me on Stack Overflow for more! Some areas of computer science and programming I would like to explore more are artificial intelligence, virtual reality and mobile development.

Game Development

Primarily, I have used Unity to develop games for just over 3 years. You can play my games over on Itch so make sure to give me a follow! As well as Unity, I have experimented with other game engines, including Unreal Engine 4, Game Maker Studio 2 and RPG Maker MV.

Graphic Design

Graphic Design is another passion of mine. In the past, I have worked on many different briefs, producing anything from logos, to posters, to restaurant menus and to CD covers. I am a member of the Adobe Creative Cloud and often use the following applications:

  • Adobe Photoshop CC
  • Adobe Illustrator CC
  • Adobe InDesign CC
  • You can find some of my artwork here.

    Education

As previously mentioned, I am currently in my first year of studying BSc (Hons) Computer Games Programming at Staffordshire University. I have previously studied the following courses at Blackpool Sixth Form College:

    • A-Level Mathematics (A*)
    • A-Level Graphic Design (A*)
    • A-Level Physics (A)

    Interests

  • Mobile App Development
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Virtual and Augmented Reality
  • Hobbies

As well as maintaining a great interest in computers, graphics and video games, I always believe its healthy to have some hobbies and other interests. Here are some of mine:

    • I have played Guitar for over 7 years and own both a Mexican Fender Stratocaster Deluxe and a Gibson Les Paul Special - a small collection I am very proud of! Some of my favourite artists are The Weeknd, Keane, Two Door Cinema Club and Blossoms.
    • I regularly go to the gym to workout and stay healthy. To me, this is especially important to break down the long hours of being sat at the computer!
    • One of my favourite things to do with friends is play board and card games! Whether we're playing Poker, Chess, Risk or DND, its always a good time.

    Get in Touch

If you'd like to get in touch, I'm always excited to hear about new projects, meet like-minded enthusiasts and work on new ideas together. You can either follow my socials or message me directly on LinkedIn. I look forward to hearing from you! Thank you.
